Seniors dress in caps and gowns. This inspirational gathering opens with our Northgate String Orchestra, and features student speakers and musical soloists.  A reception in the forum immediately follows the ceremony. JUNE 4, SUNDAY,

6:00-8:00 P.M. – GRAD NIGHT WALK THROUGH FOR PARENTS (NO SENIORS PLEASE).

Parents have an opportunity to walk through the Grad Night facility to see what your graduates will be up to following graduation. JUNE 8, THURSDAY,

9:00-11:00 AM – GRADUATION REHEARSAL (at Concord Pavilion).

Each senior must attend graduation rehearsal in order to participate in the graduation ceremony on Thursday evening.  Seniors do not attend school on Thursday, they only attend rehearsal.  Seniors MUST be AT THE ENTRANCE by 8:30 am. Rehearsal will begin PROMPTLY at 9:00 am at the Pavilion.

JUNE 8, THURSDAY,

7:00 P.M. – GRADUATION (at Concord Pavilion).

Graduation begins at 7:00 p.m. Graduates will assemble at 6:00 p.m. in the west plaza.

For the record, the tassel is worn on the LEFT side of the mortarboard until the end of the ceremony.  Upon the announcement from the stage, after all names have been announced, the graduates will shift tassels to the RIGHT side of the mortarboard.

Your student will not receive a diploma at graduation if there are outstanding bills.  To receive a diploma, bills MUST BE CLEARED at the Treasurer’s office by June 8th, no later than 1:00 p.m.

A professional photographer will be on stage to take pictures of each student as he/she receives the diploma.  A proof of the picture will be mailed to each home, and parents will be able to order prints.

There is a parking fee of $10.00 per car as you enter the lot; we suggest car-pooling (this parking money is returned to the school to help defray the cost of renting the Pavilion).  The parking lot gates open at 5:30 p.m. If you have family members who have difficulty walking or have a disability, the parking attendants will direct you to the proper location.  There is also elevator service at the far end of the East Plaza Area. It will take you down to the lower level so that stairs can be avoided.

JUNE 8, THURSDAY,

9:30 P.M. – 4:30 A.M. – SENIOR GRAD NIGHT (at Centre Concord)

Grad Night is sponsored by parents and will begin immediately following the Graduation Ceremonies (approximately 9:30 p.m.) to Friday, June 9th, 4:30 a.m. This is a special night of entertainment, dancing, games and prizes, plus food and beverages. Parents are encouraged to provide transportation for seniors.  Each student must turn in a signed permission form with payment. For Grad Night Registration questions please visit nggradnightreg@gmail.com for Anne Giannini or Andrea Sbarro.

Thanks in advance for your support in making this graduation ceremony an amazing event for your graduating senior.  As you are aware, the commencement ceremonies provide the school community with an opportunity to celebrate both the academic achievement of its graduates as well as the support these students have received from you and others along the way. With this in mind, please remember that although joyous in nature, graduation is a formal occasion where dignity and respect guide the evening.

Please observe the following procedures on June 8th as they are meant to serve as guidelines that will help ensure a memorable evening for all:

  1. During the processional, please remain seated so everyone can see the graduates enter.
  2. Please plan to remain for the entire ceremony.  The entire program should take no more than ninety minutes.  Please do not leave after your senior is introduced.  Movement by guests is disruptive and can prevent other families from enjoying the important moment for their senior.
  3. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please do not save large numbers of seats in one row.  Seating for guests will be supervised to ensure respect for the graduates.
  4. Please respect all families’ wishes to see and hear their student honored.  Noise-makers and large signs, keep this from happening. Please, therefore, refrain from bringing them.
  5. Any close-up pictures are to be taken after the ceremony.  As mentioned, please remain in your seat during the ceremony.  Remember that we have a professional photographer.
  6. Please feel free to join your graduate after the program.  You may meet your graduate on the upper level immediately following the formal end of the program.
  7. Any backpacks and/or containers will be searched by Pavilion security.
  8. Please assist us by reminding your senior that the graduation ceremony is designed to be a dignified and respectful ceremony commemorating a milestone in his or her life.  Students may not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony if they inappropriately alter their caps or gowns (messages, tape, decorations, etc.).  Similarly, students whose dress is obviously inappropriate will be asked to change their clothes or not participate in the event.  Also, shoes must also be worn at all times.

Should you have any questions or concerns about graduation or closing senior activities, please contact, Kelly Eagan: Vice Principal, at 938-0900, ext. 3556 or visit our website for more additional information at northgate.mdusd.org and select Senior Commencement Information under quick links.

I look forward to joining you in recognizing and celebrating the Class of 2017 on June 8th.

Sincerely,

Michael McAlister

Principal,
